Hálfdán Pétursson is a medical graduate from Iceland (2008) and the son of a dedicated GP. Drawn by his nation´s thousand year old tradition of travelling abroad for fame and fortune he defended his PhD thesis in Public Health at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim (2012) and is now doing his residency in general practice in Gothenburg, Sweden.
His main theme of research has been cardiovascular disease prevention guidelines from the viewpoint of the GP. Through his epidemiological research he has challenged the risk-focused and single-disease oriented guidelines that tend to fit poorly to the everyday reality of the GP. He continues to explore this field through his involvement in research on multimorbidity.
